See the difference a scanner ICC profile makes

Both images below come from the same scanner and the same print — the only difference is the scanner ICC profile. Drag the divider to compare:

After profiling: neutral colors that match the original print
Before profiling: the uncalibrated scan shows a color cast and dull colors

Free online scanner ICC profiling with an IT8.7/2 target

This tool builds an ICC profile for your scanner from a single scan of an IT8.7/2 target. Upload the scan, pick the target model and the matching reference file, and you get a ready-to-install profile together with a full quality report.

Who it is for

Photographers, print shops and anyone who needs a repeatable scanner ICC profile from a flatbed scanner — without installing desktop profiling software.

How it works

  1. Scan a ColorRuler IT8.7/2 target with color management and auto-correction switched off. 200–400 dpi is enough; a higher resolution improves accuracy slightly.
  2. Upload the scan. The outer frame of the target is located automatically, so the scan may be rotated or upside down.
  3. Choose the reference file that matches your target's batch — the batch code is printed on the bottom-right corner of the target.
  4. Download the .icc profile, the measured color values and an HTML quality report.

What you get

An ICC profile written field by field, a CGATS-style color list, a ΔE2000 difference map, and a brightness-decay check that warns you when a worn scanner lamp is limiting accuracy.

Requirements

A ColorRuler IT8.7/2 target, with a matching reference file. Scans are accepted as TIFF, PNG or JPEG up to 80 MB.
